ISL (Internet Second Language) Collective is an academic website which promotes the teaching and learning of foreign languages, by providing material for teachers and students. The website describes itself as a community of foreign language teachers who publish their self-created materials in an effort to assist other teachers in their introduction and reinforcement of the concepts associated with the various languages featured on the website. It also assists students who wish to study independently outside of their classes and who wish to reinforce what they have been taught. At present, it features material in six languages- English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Portuguese.
Founded in 2009 by Hungarians Peter and Adam Lazlo and Benedek Princz , the website offers free material to teachers and students of the target languages. It is also supported by a core staff of a Programmer, Server Specialist and a Legal and Administrative Assistant. There is also a team of Volunteer Translators and Assistants.
Although the material which consists mainly of worksheets, Power Point presentations and video lessons is free, persons must subscribe to the website to gain access to it. Additionally, there is a supporting membership option which allows subscribers to pay monthly to contribute to the maintenance of the website. This membership also allows the subscriber to avoid seeing ads while using the website. Users who do not choose this membership, are encouraged to " donate a coffee'" also as a contribution to maintenance.
Should users need to contact the owners of the site, they can do by mail, email and telephone.
